Three Washington salesmen are in Louisville Kentucky for a business conference.

After the session ends, they drive to a nearby restaurant. As they sit there, the three begin arguing on how to say the name of the city.

The first salesman says, "I've always heard Louie-ville, because it's named after King Louis".

The second comes back with, "No, no... just from the way it's spelled, you should know it's Lewis-ville".

The third disagrees, "Well, I have always heard Lou-uh-ville, like the Louisville Slugger baseball bat".

Finally, the salesmen stop their waitress and ask her to settle the matter.

The first salesman stops her and asks, "Ma'am, settle something for us. Could you please slowly pronounce where we are?"

The waitress thinks about it briefly, then says in a slow, deep voice, "Sho... ney's...."
