Daniel Irwin was a private in my division, but none of us called him that. Everyone called him Danny Scream, because the night before our division would move out, he would scream bloody murder in his bunk. Got chewed out quite a few times for it. Anyways, our convoy was in a valley south of Kabul when this huge force of jihadists came over the ridge and descended on us. Danny was on the 50 cal a few Humvees back. I owe my life to him, because he took out so many of them. I remember, one of them was charging my Humvee and was a few feet away when the good private gunned him down. They caught on though, and sent an RPG at his car. He was the only survivor from his Jeep, but his legs never left. We soon got the damn Afghans on the retreat, and hauled ass to the nearest base to get Danny and many others fixed up. He survived with his arms, and was awarded many medals. When given the option to either be honorably discharged, or to serve as an officer. He chose the latter, and was given the rank of Lieutenant. He went on to do many great things as a Lieutenant, but was cut short when his camp came under ambush and he was caught in the neck by a stray round. He died the following morning, and was honored by many of his subordinates. Thus ends the amazing life of Lieutenant Dan I. "Scream".
