Everyday Pablo would ask his dad when he could send him to America so he could learn english. His dad always replied, "Son, I cannot afford to send you to America, but maybe someday you can still learn." This continued for years until Pablo's 15th birthday when his dad bought him a very special gift, a radio. "Here is your gift Pablo, a radio so you can listen to english everyday!" Pablo was excited, finally he would be able to learn the language.
The next morning after spending all night trying to find the right stations, he asked his dad... "Dad, I've been trying to learn english all night, but how do I know what is english?" His father replied, "Son, whatever you don't understand IS english, now go learn!" Now Pablo was on his way to learning english, he listened to the radio every single day for months when suddenly an American tourist ran over one of his father's goats.
His father runs out and starts yelling at the driver, "You killed my goats! You must pay!" The American didn't know spanish and could not understand Pablo's father. "I'm sorry sir, I can pay, what do you want? Do you speak english?" The communication barrier was too much for the both of them when Pablo's father had an idea, he gestured to the American, "wait here". The father ran inside to call Pablo who was in the middle of listening to the radio, "You know english, you've been learning for the past six months and now is your time to show it off, I need you to tell this American he must pay for my goat, can you tell him for me?" Pablo tells his father, "of course, Dad."
Pablo looks at the American and speaks english for the first time... Pablo makes weird static and frequency shift noises with his mouth like the AM radio he's been listening to every day.
