A man was driving down a road through a dark forest, when suddenly his car broke down. It was getting very late, so the man decided to scout the area on foot. He gets his flashlight and starts walking. He finds a monastery nearby. He goes to the monastery, knocks on the door, and says, "My car broke down. Do you think I could stay the night?". The monks at the monastery generously accept him, feed him dinner, and they give him a place to sleep. As the man tries to fall asleep, he hears a strange sound. He couldn't tell what the sound was, it was both disturbing yet soothing, dark but innocent, malicious yet amazing, cold and creepy yet warm and welcoming. The man was bewildered by the sweet but yet somehow frightening sound. The next morning, he asks the monks about the sound, but they say "We can't tell you. You're not a monk." The man is disappointed but thanks them anyway and goes about his merry way...
Some years later, the same man was again driving down the same road and again his car breaks down in front of the same monastery. The monks again accept him, feed him. Again that night, he hears the same strange noise that he had heard all those years earlier, and it was as enchanting as he had heard it all those years ago. The next morning, he asks the monks about the sound, but the monks reply, "We can't tell you. You're not a monk." The man frustrated says, all right, all right. I'm dying to know. If the only way I can find out what that sound was is by becoming a monk, then I will, tell me, how do I become a monk? The monks look at each other whisper something among themselves and reply, you must travel to an Island and live there for about 10 years, you must learn about the meaning of life, and when you do, you will become a monk. The man sets about his task. Some years later, he returns and knocks on the door of the monastery. He says, I have traveled the earth and found what you have asked me. The monk who was the oldest and the wisest asks "what is the meaning of life? The man walks up to the monk and whispers two words in his ear. The monk smiles and replies "Congratulations. You are now a monk. We shall now show you the way to the sound". The monks lead the man to a wooden door. The old monk says,"The sound is right behind that door. The man reaches for the knob, but the door is locked. He says ,"Real funny, may I have the key?".The monks give him the key, and he opens the door. Behind the wooden door was another door made of stone. The man demands the key to the stone door. The monks give him the key, and he opens it, only to find a door made of ruby. He demands another key from the monks, who provide it. Behind that door is another door, this one made of sapphire, and this went on and on until the man had gone through doors of emerald, silver, topaz, amethyst and a whole lot more…
Finally, they reach a large door made of an unknown white substance, the monks say, "This is the last door". The man is relieved to know that he had reached the end…
He unlocks the door…
turns the knob...
and behind that door he is amazed to find…
the source of that strange sound……
which is……
… something he can't tell you about because you're not a monk XD.
