This is a story about how my teacher Mr. H got fired. I was young and not doing well in school. My parents had some money saved up so they decided I should be moved to a good neighbourhood school.
It was expensive to get in but my dad could afford it and thought it would help me improve.
I mean, I know the stereotype that Jewish families have a lot of money exists, and well, with my family we did so, I got put into this new school and started taking classes.
However, when it comes to maths, I just can't get it, I try so hard all day and everyday. School was hard enough as I had a teenage jew-fro and the other kids making fun of my nose all the time and then add on top the fact that I just couldn't focus on class.
The questions just didn't make sense and I could barely come up with an answer, so my mind often slipped away to day dreaming.
So I tell the teachers that i'm being bullied and they tell the other kids not to tease me because i'm jewish, it is racially insensitive.
So they put out this ban on any kinda anti-religious hate speech, anyone caught making an comments would find themselves facing expulsion.
Anyway, it calms down in school and I can get back to trying to focus on Maths classes. However, I still couldn't get it even without all the distractions. Just could not get the answers. Mr. H is a great guy, he often comes over and shows me the ropes
and I can see he really cares for me. However, he really is getting frustrated that I can't focus and have problems concentrating on things. He says that he will dwell on some alternatives and call a parent teacher meeting next week to discuss them.
My parents drag me to the school, eager to hear what Mr. H has to say, although their English wasn't great they liked to be involved in every single one of my affairs. So there we are sat down and waiting. In comes Mr. H excitedly telling my parents that he's found some great summer schools for me, some trips away, some that mix outdoor activities and learning. It's all sounding great.
My parents are really struggling to understand him and he's getting worked up, he just wants to help me improve my focus in class. My parents start to get pushy, they can't understand him when he speaks fast. He's flustered and blurts out
"I'm saying your son needs to be put in a concentration camp!"
That they understood.
