Two functions, f(x) = e^x and f(x) = 1, are taking a walk together, when they suddenly encounter a differential operator.
f(x) = 1 gasps and is scared. “He’s going to turn me into nothing!” She runs off in terror.
f(x) = e^x walks on, relaxed. “Pff! You can differentiate me all you want! The derivative of e^x is e^x and I remain unchanged!”
“Ah,” replies the differential operator, “but I’m d/dy!”
