They inform him of their quarrel asking for a solution. Saint Peter responds, "Send a memo to God asking him, he will give you an answer." So they do and send it up. A few minutes later a response comes back.
I can not be the one to solve this for you. Each branch has its own strengths and weaknesses that the others fill the gaps.
