ART INTERPRETATION

A couple, browsing at a gallery, stopped before at a painting that totally confused them. It depicted three naked black men sitting on a park bench, except the center one had a pink penis. The gallery curator offered his interpretation, going on and on about how it depicted the sexual emasculation of the African American in a predominately white society. "In fact," he said, "some critics postulate that the pink penis symbolizes the cultural and sociological oppression experienced by gay men in contemporary society."

After the curator left, a young man in a West Virginia sweatshirt approached the couple and quietly said, "Would you like to know what this painting is really about?" "What makes you think that you know more than the gallery's curator?" "Because I painted it!" he replied. "The truth is, those aren't African Americans or gay men at all. Them's three naked West Virginia coal miners. The middle guy went home for lunch!"
