A mathematician and an engineer are standing at a door way to a long bedroom, poised to begin an experiment. The experiment calls for them to move half the distance of the room, and then half of the distance they previously traveled, until they reach the bed at the end of the bedroom.
At the end of the bedroom is a bed upon which lies an immensely attractive woman, shifting from one erotic pose to another.
The mathematician immediately walks out of the room, furiously stating "It's impossible, I'll never be able to reach her!"
The engineer walks halfway into the room, removing his belt and unzipping his fly, stating "True, but maybe I can get close enough for something practical."
