Lou was an older man, in his 50's. He has been unhappily married to his wife Lorraine for 30 years. While he works 50 hours a week to support the house, all Lorraine does is stay at home and watch TV. Even when Lou gets home from work, Lorraine makes him do dishes, clean the house, and take out the trash. While he's thought of divorce, he wouldn't even dare say that word in front of his wife unless he wanted a slow, and painful death. It seemed there was no way out.
The only good part of Lou's life is when he gets to see his coworker at his job, named Claire Lee. She's a bit younger, in her 30's, and never been married. The two developed a relationship that moved beyond being just coworkers. Behind Lorraine's back, Lou was having an affair with Claire Lee. The two were simply in love. Lou had never felt the kind of affection for Lorraine that he felt for Claire. He felt terrible thinking it, but he wished and wished for Lorraine to go away.
Then it happened. He woke up one morning from the couch, where he always slept. He went up to make coffee and get breakfast. He found it strange that Lorraine hasn't yelled from the bedroom to bring her breakfast. He opened the bedroom door and saw her in bed, still asleep. He went over to her and nudged her, to get her attention. She was cold to the touch. He shook her, and she didn't respond. She was dead. A moment of calm settled in, with perhaps a second of grief. After that, he formed a grin and his eyes widened. He started to jump, and holler, and sing!
He started to dance around his house, and sang "I can see Claire Lee now Lorraine is gone!"
