A single French soldier returned from his patrol, severely wounded and on the verge of death. His last words to the British commander were "Bacon tree.... bacon tree..."
Not knowing what this was supposed to mean, the British commander sent out another patrol to investigate. Once again, a single French soldier returned on the verge of death and said "Bacon tree... bacon tree" as he died.
Once again unable to comprehend the meaning of this, the commander sent out a third patrol with 5 times the number of soldiers. As this patrol came under fire, one of the French soldiers yelled out in a thick French accent: "It's a ham bush!"
