Because a calendar company kicked around the idea of alternating the days of the week using only Mondays and Fridays, but when they went to publish the calendar it was really confusing, and soon the customers formed a line to return said calendars.
One man, named Jack Monday waited in the return line, but instead of returning the calendar he punched John Friday, the publisher's owner. John was very angry and exclaimed, "Hey! You can't punch me!" Jack asked, "Why not!?" To which John responded, "Because this is the return line! There is no punch line."
