There was once a Chinese elderly father and his three sons...

I was told this by my Chinese philosophy professor who summed up modern Chinese thinking in a story. Being an American Chinese male, it invoked weird feelings...

There was once a Chinese elderly father and his three sons. The elderly father tells his sons:

"Children, I am dying and will not be on this earth for much longer. When I die, what will you do with my remains?"

The oldest replies:
"Father, I will take your remains and place it in an opulent casket and give you the grandest ceremony to honor you in your memory!"

The father replies:
"My son, that is not the correct answer...that is not something I wish for."

He turns to his middle child and asks the same question.

The middle child replies:
"Father, I will take your remains and place you in the most modest and humble of caskets and give you a humble and intimate ceremony to send you on your way."

The father replies:
"My son, that is also not the correct answer...that is not something I wish for."

The father turns to the youngest child and asks the same question he had asked his other children.

The youngest child replies:
"Father, I will take your remains and grind it into small pieces and stuff them into buns and sell them at the market to make money to bring back to feed my family."

The father smiles and chuckles while nodding in approval:
"That my sons, is the correct answer."
