The leader of a Native American tribe just passed away

He was old and had been a wise leader for many years. After he passed a younger man became leader even though he had much less experience.
His first task as leader was to predict if the coming winter was going to be a mild one or a harsh one. In other words, did the tribe need to gather lots of wood for fire, or just a little. The young leader had no idea how to predict the winter so he went with the safe choice and said the winter would indeed be cold and tasked everyone with gathering loots of wood.
As the village was working he snuck out into the forest and pulled out his cell phone. He called the local weather station and asked them "is the winter going to be cold or mild?" They said "this is going to be a cold winter, yes." He thanked them and went back to his village and said "Everyone! It is going to be a very cold winter, be sure to gather lots of wood!" So they did, they kept gathering.
After a couple of weeks, the leader felt content with the amount of wood they had in storage, but just to be sure he snuck out into the woods again with his cell phone. The weather station told him "This is worse than we thought, turns out this winter is going to be extremely cold, make sure you're prepared!"
The leader, now nervous, runs back to the village and tells everyone again to keep gathering wood. After another couple of weeks they had filled up all their storage houses with just lots of wood for the upcoming cold winter. But again, just to be sure, the leader sneaks out and asks the weather station again.
"This is going to be one of the coldest winters we've ever seen. We can't believe ourselves how cold it's going to get."
The leader gets the tribe to gather more wood, build more storage houses and fill those up as well. Everyone is beginning to get really nervous since the winter is getting closer.
One final time the leader calls the weather station. "This is going to be the coldest winter in recorded history." The leader, in tears, desperately asks, "How do you know this?!"
"Well the Native Americans are gathering wood like crazy!!!"
