The ship is damaged but the battle against the two ships is won. After the battle the captain's mate says to him, "why dd you ask for the red vest?" the captain responds with "so that if I was to be injured, the crew would not see that I am bleeding, and not be discouraged". His shipmate understands. The next day the scout sees seven ships approaching, and quickly alerts the crew. The captain then says to his shipmate "matey, fetch my my brown trousers".
