Closing Time at the Bowling Alley

My own "accidental humor" (True Story)

One night, my friends and I were out bowling, and it was getting late. Around the eight frame, the manager said, over the intercom, "We'll be closing in ten minutes," but we figured we had enough time to finish our game.

In the ninth frame, he announced, "Five minutes. Please return your rental shoes ASAP," but we weren't quite done, yet, so we kept bowling.

During the tenth (and final) frame, the manager started going from lane to lane, telling everybody to pack up and go home.

When he was about eight lanes away, I rolled my first ball. I hit the pocket pretty well, but only scored a nine; the 10 pin didn't fall.

By now the manager is about six lanes away, and I'm in a dilemma: because of the way bowling is scored, if you knock down all the pins in the final frame, you get an extra roll as a way to score more points.

But the manager is almost to our lane; if I knock down that last pin, he might kick us out before the pin-setter resets another rack. But I don't want to miss, either...

So I look at how far away the manager is (four lanes, and getting closer) and I think about how long it will take to re-rack and bowl the bonus ball, and come to the conclusion that I *CAN* squeeze both rolls in before he shuts us down.

And so, I say to my friends, "I Have Time To Spare!"

(PS: Yes, it IS a true story.)
