A prison admits a new convict for the first time in years.

At his first meal in the cafeteria, he notices something strange going on. Every once in a while an inmate would stand up and call out a number, and all the other inmates would start to laugh. Confused, he turns to the guy next to him and asks what's going on.

"We've all been here so long that we've told all the jokes we know," the inmate explains. "Eventually we just assigned every joke a number so we don't have to waste time by telling it."

The new guy thinks this is a great idea. Emboldened, he stands up and shouts "87!"

Ending 1: Nobody laughs. Everybody turns to look at him, then goes back to their food. A minute later another guy stands up and yells "87!" and the inmates all laugh.

The guy turns to his neighbour and says "What gives? Why did no one laugh when I told it, but everyone loved that guy?"

He shrugs and says, "It's really all in how you tell it."

Ending 2: The guy stands up and shouts "87!"

Immediately everyone in the cafeteria bursts into laughter. There are guys banging the table with their fists, people on the floor, everyone's cracking up.

The guy sits down, pleased with himself. He turns to the guy next to him and asks, "How was that?"

His neighbour is pounding the table, tears streaming from his eyes. "Hahaha! That was great!" He panted. "We've never heard that one before!"
