A man falls off a ship into the ocean. A boat comes by, and the captain says, "Get up here!" while throwing him a life vest. The man ignores the request and the vest, placidly saying, "No thank you, God will save me". The captain sees there is no arguing with this stolid fellow and goes on his merry. Another boat comes, and the event is repeated, the man in the ocean refuses to come aboard, claiming, "God will save me". The second boat moves on.
Eventually the man in the ocean drowns in the ocean, screaming wordlessly, dying in agony.
