A well dressed man visited his pastor's home and asked to speak with the wife who was well known for her charitable deeds.
"Madam" he said in a forlorn voice, "I wish to draw your attention to the terrible plight of a poor family in this town. The father recently died, the mother is too ill to work and the seven children are starving. They are about to be made homeless unless someone can pay their rent, which amounts to $250."
"How terrible" exclaimed the pastor's wife. "May I ask your connection with this sad case?"
The sympathetic visitor wiped his tears with a large handkerchief and sobbed "I'm their landlord."
